"Fly"

Often times, I feel restricted by the people around me when creating art. I feel like there are always boundaries set for every person. Many comments I get about my art are: “It’s too strange for my liking” or “The idea is going a little too far.” In response to those comments, I created this piece. I feel like everyone should be able to express themselves any way they want to, whether or not family or close peers accept them. I will not be restricted simply by other people’s tastes. “Let your mind be free” is a common phrase that I hear everyday. I decided to show this by creating birds flying out of a person’s face to represent the freedom of expression. The doves stretch their wings as they fly, eager to be freed.
